Curved monitor depth measurement

Overall monitor depth is the most precise measurement by which to identify monitor arm suitability. 

This guide is to help you make that measurement correctly. 

We are specifically discussing overall monitor depth for relevance to what monitor arm will best suit. Therefore you should consider your monitor without the native stand it arrived with in the box. 

It's fine to have the stand affixed but do not include it in your measurements. 

The depth refers to how far the monitor extends from its frontmost point to its rearmost point, accounting for its curvature. Follow these simple steps to measure the overall depth accurately.

Tools:

• A ruler or measuring tape
• A flat surface
• A piece of paper and pen (recommended for noting measurements)

1. Place the monitor on a flat surface

Position the monitor on a stable, flat desk or table, with its base fully assembled and the screen facing you as it would in normal use. Ensure the monitor is stable to avoid tipping.

2. Identify the front and rearmost points

The depth of a curved monitor is determined by the distance between the frontmost point (typically the middle of the screen’s curve) and the rearmost point (often the back of the monitor or its stand). Visually inspect the monitor to locate these points.

3. Measure the depth

· Hold the ruler or measuring tape horizontally, parallel to the surface.

· Align one end of the measuring tool with the frontmost point of the monitor (the deepest part of the screen’s curve).

· Extend the tool straight back to the rearmost point, which could be the back of the monitor’s panel or the edge of its stand, depending on the design.

· Note the measurement in inches or centimetres.

4. Account for the stand

If the monitor’s stand extends beyond the back of the screen, ensure you measure from the frontmost point of the screen to the farthest point of the rear enclosure. The native monitor stand will be removed once the monitor arm is attached so the stand footprint is irrelevant to this measurement.

5. Double-check for accuracy

You really don't want to get this wrong. Repeat the measurement to confirm accuracy. If the monitor is tilted, adjust it to its typical viewing angle, as this may slightly affect the depth.

• Check the manufacturer’s specifications for depth, but measure manually to confirm, as listed dimensions may not always exactly match real world conditions.

• For irregularly shaped stands, place a straight edge (like a book) against the rearmost point to help align your measurement.
